While you may not want to spend a whole day on a fishing charter in the ocean with kids, you can easily rent gear and fish right off Harford Pier in Avila Beach. Fishing off this pier does not require a license, and there's no worry of sea sickness. Just drop your line, and while you're waiting for a nibble you and your family can come up with the best "fish stories". Of course, you can always stop at the Old Porte Fishery on the way home to ensure you don't return empty handed.
