Embark on the beautiful Hazard Peak Trail in the Montana De Oro State Park. Rated as Moderate, a 6 mile loop, or 3 miles each way, with an elevation gain of 1,811.  On the hike you’ll see plenty of flowers, wildlife, and the Pacific!

Do bring a bottle of water and be on the lookout for rattlesnakes in the summer months. Dogs are not allowed, on- or off-leash, on the trails in Montana De Oro State Park.

Take me out to the ball game.... The SLO Blues play Memorial Day through August, locally at Sinsheimer Park in San Luis Obispo.  2. The Classic at Pismo Beach Car Show

May 31-June 2, cruise down to the Pismo Beach Pier where the streets are filled with classic cars. Take a walk through history, with cars from every generation represented. Talk with the owners, see demonstrations, and enjoy the surrounding shops. Stick around for the Saturday night Sunset Cruise at 6pm, a sight to see, hear, and feel! This is a free spectator event.

3. Check out our local Libraries

The San Luis Obispo County Library system is in full swing in summer, with locations throughout the county! Hosting movies for all ages, music for the family, a Princess Party, teen programs like making liquid nitrogen ice cream and DIY Zen Gardens, and even a variety of visiting animal presentations, there is literally something for everyone. 4. Fishing on Harford Pier in Avila Beach

While you may not want to spend a whole day on a fishing charter in the ocean with kids, you can easily rent gear and fish right off Harford Pier in Avila Beach. Fishing off this pier does not require a license, and there's no worry of sea sickness. Just drop your line, and while you're waiting for a nibble you and your family can come up with the best "fish stories". Of course, you can always stop at the Old Porte Fishery on the way home to ensure you don't return empty handed.

5. Toy Story on the Oceanfront Lawn at The Cliffs

June 9th, bring your blankets and low backed chairs for The Cliffs Hotel + Spa's oceanfront viewing of Toy Story. 1. William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach

Roughly 45 minutes north up the iconic highway 1 from San Luis Obispo. Your trip hugs the breath-taking pacific coast landscape. This beach boasts its own pier with emerald waters. Located in a cove, the wind is blocked, making for an enjoyable beach day with lapping waves, ideal for the kids and sand castle making! This beach is a favorite Forgot your picnic basket? 2. Cayucos, CA

This little town has great views of Morro Rock from the beach. Enjoy one of kind finds from the shops on the main drag. Stop by Duckies for lunch, then for dessert, The Cayucos Candy Counter will surely satisfy that sweet tooth! With bike, surfboard, paddle board rentals available and more, this town is perfect getaway.

3. The Great American Melodrama and Vaudville

Located just 3 miles south of Pismo Beach, this theater has been a local favorite since 1975! This is no ordinary local theater. As the theater’s name suggests, many shows are performed in a classic melodramatic style, with patrons encouraged to cheer the hero and boo the villain. An evening at the Melodrama promises affordable fun and laughs for all ages.

4. Bob Jones Trail
