1.Shell Creek Road ~ just off Highway 58, about 15 miles outside of town you will find a wide swath of wildflowers on either side of the road. California Poppies mixed with lupine fill the field, this is a very popular photo-op Spot! This spot seems to have grown in popularity the last few years, with many people making the drive to experience it. Please note, this is private property, but it makes for a great drive in the country, and the perfect excuse to stop in Santa Margarita on your ride back for a little wine tasting at Ancient Peaks or dinner at The Range!

 2. Montaña de Oro State Park ~ This gem is located just south of Morro Bay, and its name translates to Mountains of Gold for the golden wildflowers that bloom in spring ~ poppies are everywhere! With mountain trails (seemingly) climbing to the sky, flat beach trails with amazing ocean views, as well as a sheltered beach, this park has it all! Pack a picnic and stay for the day or explore Morro Bay after the wildflowers.

3. Laetitia Winery ~ most well-known for luscious Pinot Noirs and effervescent sparkling wine, Laetitia has a secret ~ their drive is lined with wildflowers. You will be greeted with brilliant red and orange poppies on your way up to the winery. Plan an afternoon to sample their wines, play a little bocce ball and savor a picnic, but be sure to stop and smell the flowers (or at least take in their beauty)!

4. Cerro San Luis ~ Also known as Madonna Mountain, located in downtown San Luis Obispo, Cerro San Luis has panoramic views of the city and hiking trails leading up the mountain. The lower portion of the trail is emerald green with the recent rain, but the top section is littered with wildflowers. There are Indian paintbrush, lupine and morning glories to add color to your trail! This can be a strenuous hike.

 5. Islay Hill ~ The Eastern of the volcanic plugs (morros) running through SLO, Islay Hill offers an easy 1.8 mile hike and amazing views of the Edna Valley. Dogs are welcome on this trail, and there is a nice playground at the base, so this is a great wildflower expedition for families. While the wildflower season is short, this is the perfect time to hunt down mustard, lupines, and poppies here!
