1. The Ravine Water Park-

Nestled among a gorgeous view of sprawling vineyard, this North County favorite is sure to please.  From the five story Kamikazee to the relaxing lull of the Calypso wave pool, it will be a full day of fun in the hot Paso Robles sun!  Rent a cabana for a day or pull up a lounge chair next to their sandy beach.  Purchase your typical park snacks of burgers, wraps and hot dogs from the snack beer or sneak away to the Hideaway Bar for your favorite adult beverage!

2. Vista Lago Adventure Park, Lake Lopez- Adventure awaits you at Lopez Lake.

3. Deep Sea Fishing, Morro Bay -

Set out to sea, feel the salt on your face and the wind in your hair.  Take a ½ day or ¾ day trip out of Morro Bay to catch local rockfish for your BBQ later that evening.  Getting grubby putting bait on your hook, reeling in that first fish and adding it to your sack is one of those kid’s first time favorites!  Plus the views as you pull out of Morro Bay Harbor of the charming city in its morning light and the Morro Rock up close as you motor by create incredible memories to last the summer and beyond.

4. Pontoon Boating, Lake Nacimiento-  

This years rains filled up our lakes beautifully, and Lake Nacimiento is not an exception.  A summer favorite,  is to gather some towels, a few drinks, some chicken or fish for the on boat BBQ and head out to the lake.  Rent a pontoon boat from the lake marina, big enough to include extended family or for the kids to bring a friend, even bring Fido!   Explore the “narrows” of the lake, what it is well known for as it lays out in a dragon pattern, even find your own excluded beach to bring up the boat and hop out and explore the shore. If you are super adventurous, end your day at one of the lake campsites and do it all over again the next day!

5. Central Coast Aquarium, Avila Beach-

Just steps away from the beach and boardwalk, the Central Coast Aquarium is located on the children's play park in beautiful Avila Beach.  Visitors can explore touch tanks, which are home to dozens of species of marine animals from  commonly known sea stars and rock crabs to the unique purple sea urchin. Additional tanks highlight the diversity of marine habitats and adaptations of sea creatures. A microscope lab, kids coloring activities and a unique Chumash culture display round out the experience.  End your time with a stroll on the boardwalk and an ice cream, some play time on the beach, or even a bonfire and s’mores at one of Avila’s beach bonfire pits.

Top 5 Apple Harvest Activities in San Luis Obispo County

Fall is in the air and it is the season of harvest on the Central Coast. Besides our grapes, we have a wonderful apple orchard region nearby in rural San Luis Obispo and Avila Valley. September is the ideal time to visit and experience all the apple harvest festivities that our region has to offer. Here are some of our favorite apple-tivities!


1. Avila Apple Festival – Sunday, September 18th in Avila Beach

It’s everything apple in downtown Avila Beach where the smells of fresh apple pie, caramel apples, and sweet tasting ciders from the Avila area fill the fresh ocean air. This free, fun-filled afternoon for the entire family will feature booths of local apple growers, food booths, contests, apple art, games and crafts for the kids, educational demonstrations and great local entertainment on the headliner stage. 2. Apple Picking at Avila Valley Barn in Avila Beach

September is peak apple season at Avila Valley Barn. Be sure to visit during this time to enjoy fresh apple varieties including Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith, and more! Here, you can do more than just apple picking. There are hayrides, farm pets, a deli, and ice cream. Avila Valley Barn is has so much family fun to offer especially during apple season. 3. Hard Cider at Bristols Cider House in Atascadero

If you prefer a more adult apple harvest experience, be sure to visit Bristols Cider House in Atascadero. As the only cider pub on the Central Coast, they serve all of their craft ciders including their exclusive sessions like Brigstock and Magelwurzel (it’s pink because they add beet to it!) as well as Lone Madrone wines. Their tastings will take you through a selection of 5 of their current ciders and it is a great way to sample what they have to offer and how different each cider is. Be sure to visit Thursday through Saturday to enjoy locally catered food to pair with your refreshing cider. Bristols is open from 1pm to 8pm Wednesday through Sunday. 4. Apple Wine at Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards in San Luis Obispo

The Central Coast is, of course, very famous for our wines and wine region. So, naturally, we would pair wines with apples to make a unique apple wine. You can find this experience at Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards. Visit their tasting room and taste their Red Delicious and Golden Delicious wines. They are made using grapes and are fermented with local apple juice. They are a must try for apple fans! Enjoy their picnic grounds while you are there. 5. The Apple Dumpling at the Apple Farm Restaurant in San Luis Obispo

For nearly 40 years, the Apple Farm Restaurant has been creating delicious scratch made cuisine in San Luis Obispo. One of their most famous menu items is the Hot Apple Dumpling. This amazing dessert features a whole apple that has been peeled and cored. It is filled with cinnamon and other spices, brown sugar, and butter and then wrapped in their famous pastry dough and baked in the oven. It is best eaten with two giant scoops of vanilla ice cream and topped with cinnamon sauce. It is so huge that we recommend having someone to share it with.
