Get out and Enjoy, the Top 5 Places for a Fabulous Fall Hike in San Luis Obispo County!

The weather has cooled down and the days are starting to become shorter.  There is a difference in the light and the slight feel of crispness in the air.  It is the perfect time of year to get out and take on some of our favorite strolls, hikes and the like right here in SLO County!  Here are some of our favorites:

1. San Simeon Point-

San Simeon Point.jpg

What a hidden beauty.  Combine beach with stunning ocean vistas and you are in for a treat.  Take the beach from the San Simeon Pier access lot to the North, where you see a dirt pathway that heads away from the water, make the short trek up to the trail and continue towards the point.  Meandering through eucalyptus groves, the smell of the ocean mixed with the eucalyptus leaves is intoxicating.  Take in dramatic ocean views as you make your way along the path, emerging at the tip of the point for a view back towards the coastline and the crashing waves below.  More Information: http://www.visitsanluisobispocounty.com/profile/1883/san-simeon-point-pier-cove

2. Three Bridges Oak Preserve-

3 Bridges.jpg

This land in Atascadero has been a preserve for quite a while, but in-accessible till just recently.  Now this three mile system, includes hiker, equestrian and bicyclists sections, offering diversity for your particular activity.  Through grasslands and meadows one climbs up into California oak groves, creating a lovely two mile loop offering shady vantage points along the lower portion of the preserve.  Be adventurous and make the 1,600 elevation gain trek to the highest elevation point on the preserve where you can take in sweeping views of San Luis Obispo County.  More Information:  http://www.supportalps.org/properties/three-bridges-oak-preserve/

3. Monarch Butterfly Grove –

Monarchs.jpg

From October through February, the Monarch Grove on the edge of Pismo Beach and Grover Beach comes alive.  Over 20,000 monarchs cluster into the limbs of the eucalyptus trees, seeking reprieve from the freezing Northern winters.  Not really a hike, unless you incorporate in an easily accessible beach walk, but surely not to be missed.  And, if you are staying at SeaVenture Beach Hotel, rent a bike and make your way with a simple bike ride to the grove.  These beautiful creatures are quite magnificent!  Docents are on site most days to answer questions about the highly interesting life cycle and their habitat. 4. Bob Jones Trail-
